Foster Care & Adoption Ministry

The Foster Care & Adoption Ministry exists to inform, connect, and equip the body of Christ to care for vulnerable children and families.” As a church, we want to be part of the solution to finding families for the over 25,000 children in Kentucky and Indiana who are in the foster care system as well as the millions of orphans around the world who need a family. Our ministry focuses primarily on three areas: Informing, Connecting, and Equipping.

Informing

Through our annual Orphan Sunday in November and other activities, we want to raise up a call for more families to consider fostering or adopting. We offer regular informational sessions called Considering Foster Care & Adoption that provide families with information about foster care, domestic adoption, and international adoption.

Connecting

We are already a church with a vibrant community of foster and adoptive families. We provide quarterly Foster & Adoption Fellowships on many of our campuses, a Foster & Adoptive Mom’s Bible Study at our Blankenbaker Campus, and an annual gathering called Family Is Forever. We want every foster and adoptive family in our congregation to find meaningful connections with other families who share a similar journey.

Equipping

Fostering and adopting is a difficult journey. We provide opportunities for training and support through our Encouraged: Foster & Adopt Parent Group and at our annual Family Is Forever event. In addition, we also offer occasional specialized topical trainings throughout the year. We also have Foster Care & Adoption Leaders at many of our campuses who can serve as mentors to encourage and support families in crisis. We regularly partner with local organizations to highlight other opportunities for individuals to get involved beyond fostering or adopting (i.e., OCA Life Coaching, OCA Safe Harbor, CASA, and respite care).

What’s Next?

Considering Foster Care & Adoption
This class offers an overview of foster care, domestic adoption, and international adoption for families who are considering the next steps. These sessions are offered at various times and locations across all of our campuses throughout the year.

Foster & Adoptive Fellowship
Once a quarter, our foster and adoptive families gather to connect and encourage one another. We currently have fellowship groups that meet at six of our campuses (Blankenbaker, Crestwood, Elizabethtown, Indiana, La Grange, and Southwest).

Encouraged: Foster & Adopt Parent Group
This group meets regularly throughout the year at our Crestwood campus to provide training and support for foster and adoptive parents. Credit is provided for foster parents who need training hours and childcare is provided.
